The Future & What We Can Do

The future of the Grizzly Bear in the Greater Yellowstone area is under stress due to the implications of global warming.  With the potential of range shifts occurring such as early spawning, early blooming and much more, as well as a decrease in population of the food/prey sources for the Grizzly, there is the increasing possibility of a trophic mismatch or even the destruction of the relationship between current prey and predator occurring between the Grizzly Bears and their sources of food/prey [14].

So what can we do about this?
Just a few ideas are decrease global warming overall through things such as CDR (Carbon Dioxide Removal).  This would be a great start to curbing further rises in temperatures in not only Yellowstone but the world as a whole.  Another possibility would be to decrease our reliance on coal as an energy source for our economy since that is one of the biggest contributors to increasing levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide [6].  By switching over to other energy sources such as solar, nuclear, or putting more efforts in fusion, there could be the potential for a decrease in the speed that these impacts are taking place.  Another could be the planting of more trees to replace those that have been previously chopped down.  In addition to this, rather than cutting down more trees, possibly finding alternative resources to construct buildings with.

While there are many different potential environmental ways to help curb the effects of global warming, there are also the possibility of assisted migration or wild-life reserves.  Wild-life reserves might not be the best decision for Grizzly bears, and assisted migration for grizzly bears also doesn't seem to be great, however the assisted migration of other possible non-invasive or detrimental species that could act as new prey.  There are many ways to counteract these environmental dilemmas, but the problem is finding a way to make them a reality.  With the help of individuals making an effort that they haven't already been doing, this present and future problems could be deterred and possibly avoided.

This bear will thank you! [19]
